About Esther
Having just completed my BMus at the Royal Academy of Music, I am about to commence my MMus at the same institution. I have played the harp (both pedal and lever) and piano from a young age. Working as a freelance harpist as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician, I play and am familiar with a variety of styles including classical, folk, jazz and pop. I have been teaching for the past four years and have taught a mixture of beginners and intermediate/advanced players, as well as an even mix of children and adults, including those with dyslexia. With this experience, I am well equipped to tailor to individual needs. I also hold an up to date enhanced DBS Check and am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
Outside of teaching, some recent solo competition successes include winning the inaugural Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary Prize (the final of which was held at Wigmore Hall 2020), reaching the final of the Sir Karl Jenkins Music Award (to be held October 2020) and being very highly commended in both the prestigious RAM Club Prize (2019) and RAM Guy Magrath Harp Prize (2019).
As an orchestral harpist, I have played with ensembles including the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra, Royal Academy Opera Orchestra, London Mahler Orchestra, London City Orchestra, Oberon Symphony Orchestra, University of London Symphony Orchestra, and Saffron Walden Opera Group. I have worked under the batons of renowned conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Edward Gardener and John Wilson, and premiered works by Tansy Davies, Unsuk Chin, Larry Goves and Iris ter Schiphorst.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and teach beginners and advanced students, children and adults alike, whether this be to learn just for fun or with the aim of taking ABRSM or TCL exams. I am always friendly and energetic and am passionate about the importance of music for personal development and wellbeing. I truly believe that each student needs a tailored approach to learning the harp, and so I always discuss with the student what they would like to learn from their lessons, and then incorporate technical details into the larger overall picture. I want students to enjoy their lessons and for practising to never feel like a chore!
