About Mahshid

Hi! My name is Mahshid and I am a swim instructor and lifeguard based in Montreal. I am certified in First Aid and AED, and I enjoy helping children and adults feel comfortable and confident in the water.

I work with students of different levels, from beginners who are learning to swim for the first time to swimmers who want to improve their technique and confidence in the water. My teaching approach is patient, supportive, and adapted to each student’s pace and goals.

During lessons we focus on important foundations such as water comfort, floating, breathing, kicking, and basic swimming movement. I also help students improve coordination and technique as they become more comfortable in the water. For children, I include simple games and activities to keep lessons engaging and enjoyable while they learn.

My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and proud of their progress. Learning to swim should be an enjoyable experience.

I especially enjoy helping beginners and students who feel nervous in the water build confidence step by step.

Swimming lessons should help students feel safe, confident, and comfortable in the water. My lessons are designed for children, teenagers, and adults at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

In lessons we focus on:
• Water confidence
• Floating and breathing
• Kicking and basic swimming movement
• Improving freestyle and backstroke technique
• Building endurance and comfort in the water

For beginners, the focus is on water confidence, floating, breathing, and basic movement in the water. Many students start with fear or hesitation, so the first goal is helping them feel relaxed and safe before introducing proper swimming techniques.

Intermediate swimmers work on improving freestyle and backstroke, breathing coordination, and endurance, while more experienced swimmers can focus on refining technique and swimming longer distances.

Each lesson follows a structured approach including warm-up exercises, skill drills, practice swimming, and short activities or games for younger students to keep lessons engaging and fun.

Lessons can take place in condo pools, private pools, or community pools depending on what is most convenient.

The first lesson is usually focused on helping the student feel comfortable in the water and understanding their current level so we can build a learning plan that suits them.

No previous swimming experience is required, and lessons are adapted to each student's comfort level and pace.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about swimming lessons or would like to discuss the best plan for your child.

  • 1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

Swimming has always felt special to me because it is not only a sport. It is something that can make a person feel safe, independent, and more confident.

My interest became stronger when I started learning more seriously and preparing to become a swimming instructor. I realized that many people, especially beginners, do not only need someone to teach them the movements. They need someone calm beside them who understands their fear, gives them time, and helps them trust the water step by step.

That is what made me interested in teaching swimming. I like seeing someone go from “I can’t do this” to “I want to try again.”
  • 2) What makes you passionate about your subject?

What I love about swimming is the confidence it gives people.

For some students, even putting their face in the water is a big step. For others, floating without panic or letting go of the wall is already a success. I enjoy those small moments because they are not small for the student.

I like that swimming teaches patience, control, breathing, and trust. It is physical, but it is also mental. When a student starts to feel safer and more relaxed in the water, their whole attitude changes, and that is very rewarding to see.
  • 3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a “Superprof”?

What I like about tutoring is that it is personal. You cannot teach every student the same way, especially in swimming.

Some students need clear explanations. Some need encouragement. Some children need games, toys, and a little creativity before they feel comfortable. Some adults feel embarrassed because they did not learn earlier, so they need patience and respect.

What makes me a good Superprof is that I pay attention to the person, not only the skill. I do not rush. I try to understand what the student is afraid of, what helps them relax, and what kind of progress is realistic for them.

My lessons are calm, structured, and adapted to the student’s level. I want my students to feel safe, but also to feel that they are improving every time.
  • 4) Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

I do not have only one role model. I have always admired teachers who are patient and make students feel comfortable, especially when the student is nervous or unsure.

For me, a good teacher is not someone who simply gives instructions. A good teacher notices when the student is scared, confused, tired, or losing confidence, and knows how to adjust.

Those are the teachers who inspired me the most: the ones who make learning feel possible. That is the same feeling I want to give to my students.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

My keys to success are patience, consistency, and trust.

In swimming, I believe trust comes first. Before learning perfect technique, the student needs to feel safe in the water and safe with the instructor. After that, we can work on floating, breathing, kicking, coordination, and swimming more independently.

I also believe in small progress. Not every lesson has to look impressive from the outside. Sometimes success is a student putting their face in the water for the first time, floating for a few seconds, or feeling less afraid than last week.

For me, that is real progress. Step by step, confidence becomes skill.
