About Mahshid
Hi! My name is Mahshid and I am a swim instructor and lifeguard based in Montreal. I am certified in First Aid and AED, and I enjoy helping children and adults feel comfortable and confident in the water.
I work with students of different levels, from beginners who are learning to swim for the first time to swimmers who want to improve their technique and confidence in the water. My teaching approach is patient, supportive, and adapted to each student’s pace and goals.
During lessons we focus on important foundations such as water comfort, floating, breathing, kicking, and basic swimming movement. I also help students improve coordination and technique as they become more comfortable in the water. For children, I include simple games and activities to keep lessons engaging and enjoyable while they learn.
My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and proud of their progress. Learning to swim should be an enjoyable experience.
I especially enjoy helping beginners and students who feel nervous in the water build confidence step by step.

Swimming lessons should help students feel safe, confident, and comfortable in the water. My lessons are designed for children, teenagers, and adults at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
In lessons we focus on:
• Water confidence
• Floating and breathing
• Kicking and basic swimming movement
• Improving freestyle and backstroke technique
• Building endurance and comfort in the water
For beginners, the focus is on water confidence, floating, breathing, and basic movement in the water. Many students start with fear or hesitation, so the first goal is helping them feel relaxed and safe before introducing proper swimming techniques.
Intermediate swimmers work on improving freestyle and backstroke, breathing coordination, and endurance, while more experienced swimmers can focus on refining technique and swimming longer distances.
Each lesson follows a structured approach including warm-up exercises, skill drills, practice swimming, and short activities or games for younger students to keep lessons engaging and fun.
Lessons can take place in condo pools, private pools, or community pools depending on what is most convenient.
The first lesson is usually focused on helping the student feel comfortable in the water and understanding their current level so we can build a learning plan that suits them.
No previous swimming experience is required, and lessons are adapted to each student's comfort level and pace.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about swimming lessons or would like to discuss the best plan for your child.

Perfect! Very attentive with my kids ! I recommend her !
Perfect! Quick to adapt to my daughter's need, Mahshid immediately found a way to meet her where she was at and establish trust.
Delightful first lesson and I plan to continue with her in the futurePerfect! Really good tutor
- Alexandra approached her first lesson with patience and determination. Although she experienced some fear and anxiety in the water, she took her time, kept trying, and gradually overcame each challenge with a positive attitude.See the response Mahshid :
We started the session by walking in the water to get used to the temperature and become more comfortable in the pool environment.
Next, we worked on face submersion and breath holding, gradually progressing from placing her chin in the water to fully submerging her face. By the end of this stage, she was able to comfortably hold her breath underwater for up to 20 seconds.
We then introduced front floating, starting with the support of the wall and gradually progressing toward independent floating. Once she became more comfortable, we added basic arm movements to create gentle propulsion and allow her to move through the water.
Overall, Alexandra made excellent progress in just one session. Her patience, perseverance, and willingness to keep trying created a strong foundation for future lessons.
Perfect! Amazing lesson! Mahshid is a super patient tutor and encourages me to improve. The explanations were clear and Mahshid gives a good, honest feedback. I learned a lot today, and I'm really excited to continue. Thank you so much!
Perfect! It was a very productive lesson.
- Ursula already has a strong swimming base. She is able to back float comfortably, move in the water with control, and perform a head-up breaststroke variation. However, she feels some anxiety with putting her face in the water, and her main goal is to learn front crawl.See the response Mahshid :
We started the session by walking in the pool and getting familiar with the water temperature and overall sensation, helping reduce anxiety and create a relaxed learning environment.
We then worked on face submersion, progressing gradually from chin immersion to full face in the water. During this stage, she also began to understand an important principle of swimming: water naturally supports the body and helps it float upwards.
Once she became more comfortable with face immersion, we moved into front floating, starting with wall support and then progressing toward more independent floating. We also practiced controlled, calm stops in the water to build balance, stability, and confidence.
By the end of the session, we introduced basic arm movements into her float to create gentle forward propulsion. This was a brief introduction and will require further practice to develop control and consistency.
Overall, a very positive first session with strong potential and good water awareness
Perfect! She is kind, she has good stratégies to teach...
- Thank you for your review!See the response Mahshid :
I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed the lessons, and I look forward to helping you continue progressing and building confidence in the water
Perfect! Great tutor, booking other sessions
- In our first session, Corinne showed a very high level of comfort and confidence in the water, which allowed us to progress quickly through the foundational steps.See the response Mahshid :
We started by building trust and comfort in the water, including getting used to putting her face in the water. We then practiced breath-holding to help her feel more relaxed and in control underwater.
From there, we moved into front float, starting with wall support and gradually building stability in a horizontal position.
Once she was comfortable with floating, we progressed to front glide, focusing on body position and smooth movement through the water. We then added basic arm movements to support forward motion and coordination.
By the end of the session, we reached the stage of adding front breathing to the front glide, which is not usually introduced in a first session. She was able to adapt well and integrate it into the movement with good control.
For next session, we will focus on refining breathing technique and improving consistency and coordination in the full movement.
Overall, a very strong first session with fast progress and excellent water confidence
Perfect! She is great!
- Francisco is a very sweet and energetic little guy who clearly enjoys being in the water. He is curious, playful, and already excited by the idea of exploring the deeper parts of the pool, even if it's still a little early in his swimming journey.See the response Mahshid :
We spent the first part of the lesson getting to know each other and building trust. Francisco shared that his favorite animals are dinosaurs, and we also talked about his previous swimming experience. Through our conversation and activities, I learned that he is able to kick a bit in the water, is semi-comfortable with water on his face, can blow some bubbles, and is beginning to explore other water skills.
Using playful activities, we practiced these skills together. We worked on kicking and moving through the water while reaching for floating toys, turning learning into a fun game while continuing to build confidence and strength.
At this stage, our main goals will be helping Francisco become more confident and independent in the water, while developing his floating skills and strengthening his movements through play-based activities.
Overall, this was a very positive first session and a great start to our swimming journey together
Perfect! I signed up with Mahshid for beginner level classes. I have a history of bad experience being in water, so my main goal was to learn basic swimming to overcome that fear & classes with Mahshid is exactly what i needed. She's really patient, helpful & tailors the techniques based on your progress & natural strengths. I also liked her genuine commitment to training & helping out. Would highly recommend her as a swimming instructor.
- Amel has had some negative past experiences with water, which has led to a level of fear. He has been trying to overcome this through swimming lessons. In previous classes, he relied heavily on a life jacket, and at this stage we are gradually moving away from that so he can build a natural sense of comfort, safety, and trust in the water, the foundation of all swimming.See the response Mahshid :
We began the session by practicing breath-holding, focusing on building confidence and helping him feel safe and in control of his breathing at all times.
We then moved on to front floating, exploring his most comfortable and natural position in the water. We started with wall support and gradually progressed to floating independently in open water, away from the wall, in the middle of the pool.
Once he became more comfortable, we introduced arm movements to give him the first sensation of moving through the water without assistance or flotation devices, a very important milestone and his first real experience of swimming independently.
Overall, this was a very positive first session with great progress, and I’m looking forward to building on these foundations together
Perfect! I had the pleasure of taking swimming lessons with Mahshid, and it was a great. She is a highly skilled and patient teacher who makes learning how to swim both comfortable and enjoyable. Her teaching style is clear and encouraging, which really helps build confidence in the water. . I recommend her.
- Jeff comes with some previous experience in the water and is already able to do a basic front crawl without breathing. To help him add proper breathing to his stroke, we took a step back to build strong foundations through floating and gliding.See the response Mahshid :
During this first session, we focused on front floating and were even able to begin adding arm movements; great progress for a first lesson.
Moving forward, I encourage Jeff to trust the learning process and stay open and positive as he builds these fundamentals. Wanting to learn quickly is a great motivation, but swimming skills come together step by step. Making mistakes and learning from them is an important part of the journey.
Our goal isn’t to fight the water just to reach a destination, but to become comfortable and relaxed in it, learning to move with ease and enjoyment. With patience and practice, all the small skills we are building will soon come together into a smooth and effortless swim.
Overall, a great first lesson and a very promising start
Perfect! Excellente, très bonne expérience avec mon fils de 4 ans
- On his first lesson, Yousef was a little hesitant to get into the water, which is completely normal. With gentle encouragement and lots of reassurance, he slowly gained the confidence to join in and start exploring.See the response Mahshid :
He clearly enjoys being in the water and has such a joyful, playful energy during the lesson. By the end, he made beautiful progress, going from holding tightly onto me to lying on the water with support and feeling much more comfortable.
Our next step will be helping him feel confident putting his face in the water, which is a big milestone for little swimmers.
Overall, it was a really positive first lesson and a wonderful start to his swimming journey.
Perfect! Mahshid was great at teaching. She was very patient and made me feel comfortable in the water. She adjusted the class based on the progress and specific needs. I enjoyed the swimming session with her.
- Before the lesson, Sharon shared that she used to swim but had taken a break and felt she had forgotten the proper breathing technique. Once in the water, we realized that building more confidence in her floating would be an important step toward comfortable breathing.See the response Mahshid :
She made great progress during this first session. We practiced relaxed front floating and gliding, and began reintroducing breathing. Her floating and gliding are already very good foundations to build on.
When breathing is added, she sometimes feels a bit disoriented, which is completely normal at this stage. I encourage her to practice between sessions to help her find a comfortable rhythm. The most important focus right now is staying relaxed and moving in a calm, controlled way in the water.
Next session, we will continue working on front gliding with breathing until it feels natural, and then we will begin practicing back floating.
Overall, this was a very positive and promising first lesson
Perfect! Thank you
- During her first lesson, Valérie showed great enthusiasm and a genuine desire to become more confident in the water. Although she has had swimming lessons before, she was still feeling uncomfortable floating and swimming without aids. I really encourage her to keep this positive and motivated attitude as we continue working together.See the response Mahshid :
Since floating is the foundation of all swimming skills, we chose to take a step back and focus on helping her relax and feel comfortable in the water. The goal is to shift from swimming just to reach a destination to swimming to enjoy the experience and feel at ease in the water.
She made lovely progress during this first session, moving from not being able to float to floating with assistance and feeling more relaxed while doing so.
The next steps will be to continue building this comfort until she can float independently, and then begin developing her gliding skills.
Overall, this was a very encouraging start to her swimming journey.
Excellent! La patience et le respect
- During her first lesson, Genevieve showed great motivation and a real desire to improve her swimming. She is clearly putting in the effort and comes to the lesson ready to learn, which is a wonderful mindset to have.See the response Mahshid :
It’s important for her to stay positive and focus on how far she has already come, from feeling scared of the water to now being able to float and glide independently. That is a big achievement, and she truly deserves to give herself credit for that progress.
As we move forward, we will keep taking things one session at a time and doing the best we can each lesson. With this approach, she will continue to see steady improvement.
Right now, she is still building comfort while floating with assistance, which is a key step we will keep working on. Once this becomes more natural, we’ll be able to further develop her breathing and kicking and gradually bring all the swimming components together.
Overall, this was a very positive first lesson and a great start to her swimming journey

Mahshid is a great swimming instructor who turns my fear into fun. With patience, she helps you feel safe and confident.
I already knew how to swim but not in a proper way, I kinda learned it myself over the years. I just wanted someone to help me fix it and make it better, and Mahshid was honestly so good for that.
She really pays attention to all the small details and noticed things I’ve been doing wrong for years without realizing. She helped me fix my technique a lot.
I’d 100% recommend taking a session with her even if you already know how to swim like me, it actually makes a big differenceHonestly Mahshid is the best tutor I’ve had. I was really scared of water and even with other tutors before I couldn’t get over it, but she helped me so much.
She’s super patient, chill, and really knows what she’s doing. She never rushed me and made me feel comfortable the whole time.
Highly recommend her 🤍As a mom, I was really worried about my 4-year-old around water. Pool time meant clinging to me and refusing to get in, so I honestly wasn’t sure how lessons would go.
From the very first sessions, Mahshid was incredibly patient, gentle, and kind. She has a special way of connecting with kids and turning everything into a game, which helped my child feel safe and even excited instead of scared.
After just one term, the change has been amazing. My child is now comfortable in the water and actually looks forward to swimming — something I never thought would happen so quickly.
We’re so happy with how things are going and will definitely continue lessons with Mahshid.Mahshid is an excellent tutor who really focuses on building water confidence and mastering the basics like floating before moving into technique. When I started, I wasn’t fully comfortable in the water, but she took the time to make sure I felt at ease and confident. Her teaching is clear, patient, and well-structured, breaking things down step by step so you actually understand what you’re doing. Over just a few sessions, I could see real progress, and things that felt difficult at the beginning became much more natural.
