About Kelwadis

I'm Kelwadis, a Product Designer and Creative Director based in Los Angeles, by way of New York, where I got my BFA in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts.

Most of my career has been spent thinking in systems rather than screens. Before I zoom into a button or a spacing value, I want to understand limitations and the whole structure it lives inside. A detail that looks right in isolation can still be wrong for the system around it. Big picture first, details second. That's just how my brain works, and it's how I teach too.

I care a lot about consistency, not because it looks tidy on a slide, but because consistent systems are easy to replicate. If a pattern only works once, it's not a pattern, it's a lucky guess. Good design should be repeatable by someone other than the person who made it, and that's the standard I hold my own work to.

Outside of Figma, I also keep an isopod terrarium at home, so if you ever want proof that "systems thinking" isn't just a work thing, ask me about my pill bugs. They might be more organized than most Figma files I've seen.

About the lesson

A few years back at work, I started running informal sessions I called Figma Fridays. No mandatory sign-up, just designers pulling up chairs to learn Figma out of curiosity instead of obligation. It turned into the thing people looked forward to at the end of the week, which taught me something: people don't just want to learn. They want to be curious about their craft again.

That's the whole idea behind this course.

I teach Figma, the tool the entire design industry runs on, but I don't stop at "here's how you draw a rectangle." Every lesson pairs a Figma skill with a principle from the Laws of UX (lawsofux.com). The tool teaches your hands. The law teaches your instincts.

I've spent 16+ years doing this for a living, at known brands, and a handful of scrappy startups in between, so this isn't theory I picked up from a blog. It's the actual framework I use to make decisions on real products.

By the end, you won't just know Figma. You'll know why good design looks the way it does, and that's the part that actually sticks.
