About Neil

I am a professional ARB registered Architect based in Edinburgh with 8 years of experience in professional practice. I also have 8 years of experience as a studio tutor teaching Architectural Design at university undergraduate and post-graduate levels, helping students (international and UK) develop exciting, rigorous, and compelling Architectural projects.

About the lesson

I teach undergraduate and post-graduate students at a university level and understand how every student and every project is different. Therefore my lessons are tailored to the specific needs of each student. In every case I am a friendly, patient, and approachable tutor. Although I aim to be bespoke, there are some recurring themes:

Fundamentals - There are some drawings, representations, and descriptions that every project needs. Lets talk through what they are and how you can adapt them to your specific needs. Are you working across all four scales effectively? How can you develop your architectural language? Let me help you develop the skills you need to tackle these issues.

Framing - Perhaps you are nearing a deadline and are struggling to see the project clearly? Lets talk through what you have and think of ways you can "frame" your project and make it understandable to others.

Concepts - Are you struggling to understand the brief you have been given? Are you looking for someone to talk through complex concepts and ideas? Are you thinking "how do I make architecture out of this"? or "where do I begin"? Let me help you.

Techniques and Representation - What kind of drawings do you need? How do you make them? Let me share with you some of the techniques I have used with many students over the years to great success. I can share with you some of their work, highlighting what was successful and what was not.

Software - I am experienced in a variety of design softwares including Revit. if you are having a particular Revit problem, let me help.
