About Matt
I am a bassoonist from the Wirral, currently based in London having recently graduated with distinction from a MA degree at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM). I also have a First Class (Honours) BMus degree and a Diploma from the RAM. I enjoy a varied schedule of solo performance and chamber music, combined with orchestral work and teaching.
I have worked with the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Knussen Chamber Orchestra, and Sinfonia Cymru, as well as the European Union Youth Orchestra, and regularly freelance with lots more London Orchestras.
I have given solo and chamber music recitals in London and around the UK, as well as internationally.
I have experience teaching and working with bassoonists of different ages and levels, as well as outreach sessions in schools and the wider community.
I have an up to date enhanced DBS.

I teach students of all levels and ages, and always aim to find a style that suits each and every individual.
Whether you are interested in progressing through exams, or just learning for the satisfaction and fun, I have the expertise to work with you and get the best out of your bassoon playing.
I think it is important to learn not only to play the instrument, but how to practise effectively, how to listen carefully, and ultimately how to improve your own playing.
I charge £30/hour, and £15/half hour. I am willing to travel to you, although depending on distance this might incur a small additional charge - best to get in touch and we can discuss!
I can also provide online lessons, if you prefer that option.
