About Jamie
I am a composer and conductor primarily writing opera, multimedia staged orchestral works and large-scale installation pieces. Commissioners and collaborators include with Holland festival, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, LOD Muziektheater in Ghent, London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra in London, Xenon ensemble in Berlin, Festival d’aix-en-Provence, Royal Opera House (London), Theater- und Musikgesellschaft in Zug, deSingel International Arts Campus in Antwerp, Palau de les Arts Reine Sofia in Valencia, Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg, and Asko|Schönberg Ensemble in Amsterdam, l’Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and Théatre du Châtelet.

Your music, why you write it and what you want it to say is central to our sessions. I will listen and offer technical, musical or philosophical reference points to help you achieve what you are imagining. In my experience, as an early career composer and conductor, I found the best teachers and mentors were ones who had a good understanding of the international commissioning circuit and were themselves, working composers and conductors with strong artistic voices. They also understood the importance of prioritising 'why and what' I was trying to achieve without necessarily imposing their own aesthetics. This is central to how I teach and provide private consultation. My online sessions usually last an hour and can be as regular or irregular as you wish.
