About Cole

Hey there! Since the moment I heard Van Halen at 3 years old, I knew I was going to become a professional musician. Once I got my first guitar at 4 years old, the journey truly started. Over 20 years since then, I have been able to:

Attend, and graduate from MacEwan University with a Bachelor's of Music (with Distinction), where I was fortunate to study under two-time Grammy Nominee and CCMA "Country Guitarist of the Year" Ryan Davidson.

Write, record, produce/mix music and tour Western Canada with my emo/pop-punk band Darryl Saves Lives.

Publish videos and work with multiple guitar brands through my YouTube channel, colji.

About the lesson

With close to ten years of teaching experience, I am confident I can help a student achieve their musical goals. Here's why you should consider me as your music instructor.

Playing Experience:
Having played guitar for over 20 years, I have extensive experience across many genres, including rock, blues, metal, and jazz. This experience lends itself to accommodating most students' playing questions.

Educational Experience:
With a Bachelor's Degree in Music (with Distinction) from MacEwan University (Edmonton), I have accumulated skills that can help students go beyond just learning their instrument. I can help students with ear training, musical theory, songwriting, music production, music technology and more.

Real Life Experience:
Having spent time on the road and in the studio with my band, Darryl Saves Lives, and having attended university to study music, I can help students who want to make music their career with real-world insight and advice. This can take the form of songwriting, music production, and release planning.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to lessons:
Guitar/Music lessons need to be tailored to an individual's musical preferences, skill level, and learning style. What works for one person may not work well with others. I pride myself on considering these factors when teaching students. I work with my students to determine their goals with the guitar and plan how we will reach them together.

Some specific areas I have focused on with my students include:
Post-secondary audition prep
How to write better riffs and solos
Songwriting and recording fundamentals
