About Don
I am a computer engineer. I have more than 24 years of tutoring experience. I have taught classes in Canada and overseas to high school and university students and I was a teacher assistant at U of H for engineering students. I tutor in math (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry), general science and IT.

My methods of teaching math are the following: while explaining an operation, I use a visual or graphic illustration to help get the point across. I provide students with connections to the real world or previously taught lessons to help them make sense of concepts. I use assessments to determine student understanding and to check in on students learning. I focus on strategies because math is all about problem-solving using strategies. Sometimes, there is only one way to solve a problem, but many times, there are multiple avenues to the answer. I model several strategies for understanding and exploring a concept. I encourage students to apply high-level skills when given problems and focus on the thought process involved in the solution. Math usually has only one right answer, but being able to reason through the steps to find the answer is the most important part of solving math problems.
