About Penelope
I’m Penelope, a first-year student at McGill University with an interest in psychology and neuroscience. I have always enjoyed English and have a strong interest in reading, writing, and understanding how people communicate and learn.
As a student myself, I understand that school can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you are struggling to understand a reading or do not know how to organize your ideas into a strong piece of writing. I want to create a comfortable and supportive environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and build their confidence without feeling judged.

I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and are able to learn at their own pace. My goal is to make English feel less overwhelming by breaking down difficult concepts into simple, manageable steps. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs and focus on building both their skills and confidence.
A lesson usually begins by reviewing what the student is currently working on and identifying areas they are struggling with. We then focus on one or two specific skills, such as reading comprehension, essay structure, analysis, grammar, or writing organization. I explain the concept, work through examples with the student, and then have them practise independently with guidance. We finish by reviewing what they learned and identifying what they should focus on before the next lesson.
I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students do not feel embarrassed about asking questions or making mistakes. As a student myself, I understand how difficult it can be to balance multiple assignments and deadlines. I focus on making lessons practical, encouraging, and personalized rather than simply giving students the answers.
