About Helen
Teaching is not my side project. It is my profession.
I qualified through a full PGCE programme and hold Qualified Teacher Status (UK) and DBS. I have spent over twenty years in classrooms — in UK primary schools and in international schools in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Phuket and Lagos. I know the British curriculum from the inside, and I know what it looks like when a child has moved between school systems and arrived with gaps nobody has noticed yet.
I work with a small number of families each term. That is a deliberate choice. It means I know every child I teach - their gaps, their strengths, how they think and where they lose confidence. I write a progress report at the end of every block and am available to parents between sessions. I treat the families I work with as long-term partners.
My approach is diagnostic before it is anything else. I do not begin teaching until I understand where a child actually is, not where their last school said they were.
Families come to me because their child is preparing for 11+ or 13+ entry, navigating a curriculum transition between countries, or needs structured academic support that a class of thirty cannot provide. If any of those apply, I am likely the right fit.

I am a fully qualified British primary teacher with QTS and a PGCE, and over 20 years of classroom experience across the UK, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Phuket and Lagos. I have taught the British curriculum in the same international school environments where many of my students' families are living now.
My lessons are built around a diagnostic approach. Before a child joins my lessons, I assess where they are against British curriculum expectations — not to label them, but to understand exactly where the gaps are and plan from there. Every session has a clear focus. Nothing is filler.
Sessions run for one hour via Zoom. I work with children in Years 3 to 9, with a particular specialism in KS2 and 11+ preparation. My lessons suit children who need rigour and structure, children navigating curriculum transitions between countries, and families preparing for selective school entry at 11+ or 13+.
I teach English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and science. For 11+ preparation, I cover comprehension, writing technique, reasoning and timed exam practice, integrated across sessions, not drilled in isolation.
I offer one-to-one sessions for families who want individual focus. Parents receive a progress report at the end of each block with clear targets and next steps.
My students are typically from British expat families in the UAE and internationally, though I work with families worldwide.

I cannot recommend Helen highly enough—she has been truly transformative for my daughter. After years of struggling with fractions under other tutors and classroom teachers, Helen finally made it click. She has a remarkable ability to break complex concepts down into clear, manageable steps while remaining incredibly patient, encouraging, and kind. Thanks to her guidance, my daughter's confidence skyrocketed, she aced her entrance exam, and she is now absolutely thriving at her school. Helen is an exceptional educator!"
