About Allyson

I am truly passionate about languages and love sharing that passion with others!

Studying Irish at UL as part of my degree gave me a strong foundation in the language and a real enthusiasm for teaching it. I believe it’s important to immerse yourself as a language learner, and I have had the invaluable experience of teaching Irish in both Inis Oírr and Corca Dhuibhne, Dingle. These experiences have strengthened my spoken Irish massively, and it’s something I look forward to every summer!

I’ve also conducted Irish mock orals in The Crescent Comprehensive SJ in Limerick, which gave me a great insight into the oral component of the Junior and Leaving Certificate exams. I now use this experience to inform my own teaching and help students build their confidence and thrive in their Irish oral exams.

Alongside Irish, I am also a Spanish teacher and have a real passion for the Spanish language and culture. I have had the opportunity to further develop my Spanish through language courses in both Valencia and Alicante. These experiences allowed me to immerse myself in the language and culture, while also strengthening my spoken Spanish and giving me a deeper understanding of the experience of learning a language abroad.

Currently, I am loving my new teaching position this year in Loreto Abbey Dalkey, where I teach both Irish and Spanish. Sharing my grá for the Irish language and my passion for Spanish, while helping students grow in confidence and develop their language skills, is what motivates me most as a language teacher!

About the lesson

I tailor each lesson to meet you where you’re currently at with your Irish, creating a personalised approach that supports your individual needs and goals. Together, we build your confidence and skills step by step, whether your focus is oral Irish or improving your written Irish.

Previously, students have noted my ability to break down Irish material in a clear and accessible way, particularly for both literacy components at Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate level.

I structure lessons to make the learning material more manageable, gradually building your skills and understanding to help you achieve the results you’re aiming for.

For Spanish, I currently teach up to Junior Cycle level, and I tailor lessons depending on what you would like to get from learning the language. Whether you are preparing for your Junior Cycle exams, looking to improve your Spanish for school, or simply want to learn Spanish as an additional skill, I can adapt lessons to suit you.

Spanish lessons don’t have to be exam-focused. If your goal is to become more comfortable speaking Spanish conversationally, prepare for a trip, develop your confidence in everyday Spanish, or simply learn a new language as a hobby, I can create lessons around your interests and goals. I believe that learning a language should be enjoyable and practical!
