About Matilda

I am a qualified maths teacher and a professional tutor offering mathematics lessons. I have 7 years of experience tutoring and teaching maths to students of all ages, having strong knowledge and experience with the material taught. I work in an outstanding school and have an enhanced DBS. University : - Manchester Metropolitan University - PGCE Maths - Liverpool John Moores University - Economics [2:1]

About the lesson

For the first meeting, I always start by discussing with the student what their strengths and weaknesses are in the topic. To start every lesson we will have topics that challenge their strengths while also fixing their weaknesses. During lesson time I use the I do, we do and you do format as it is proven to help understanding. I give the students time to practise the skill they’ve learnt with some questions - before I show them some exam style questions and discuss how to approach them. At the end of the lesson we will always write a step to success - this is where they have the chance to write down what steps they need every time they see a problem similar to the topic.

Details

I have been offering one-to-one lessons for students looking to improve their maths exam performance, perfect their skills and generate a love for the subject. My teaching style is based on the students' needs, learning style and building up their understanding using their prior knowledge of the subject. I help students understand mathematics in more depth, allowing them more freedom to solve problems in the way that works for them. I believe practice is essential to the understanding of the studied topics and it is key to getting an in-depth knowledge of mathematics. Therefore enabling me to challenge their thinking.
