About Ermine
My name is Ermine and I have been teaching for over thirty years. This is because I absolutely love what I do. I am excellent at breaking down concepts into manageable "chunks", and the delight which I get when my students have "a-ha" moments, is absolutely indescribable!

MY QUALIFICATIONS:
I hold a PGCE in primary education as well as being a qualified ESL in the mainstream tutor. In addition, I earned a distinction from the TEFL academy.
MY EXPERIENCE:
In the 30 years since I qualified, I have taught in a range of settings - as a KS1 and KS2 classteacher, an EAL advisory teacher and I have also trained teachers abroad. For the past 2 years, I have worked as an online tutor, teaching Maths and English to KS2/3 students.
MY APPROACH TO TEACHING:
Typically, my lessons are divided into 4 parts
- a mental warm up activity so that my students can revise a concept which has previously been taught and that prepares them for the new learning;
- my input as a teacher relating to the lesson objective;
- an independent task for the learner;
- a plenary so that they can apply their learning to a new context and reflect on their learning.
Questioning is an integral part of my lessons as I constant check for misconceptions so that I can address these. I also invite my students to assess their own learning as this informs my future planning. I also include games as I believe this is a fun way of students consolidating their learning.
WHO I TEACH:
My English and Maths lessons are for KS2 students and those preparing for entry to Independent schools (7+, 8+ and 11+). My EAL lessons are for 11 year olds to adults.
