In my teaching, I place a high priority on collaboration and class discussions. This is especially important in language acquisition, for which oral communication is such a key component.
Student engagement is necessary for success. With this in mind, I always foster a positive and non-judgmental environment. By avoiding unnecessary interruptions to correct spoken grammar, I allow students to make mistakes and grow into confident language learners. I encourage students to practice without fear of nitpicking and judgment.
When it comes to written work, I try to instill students with some of my passion for grammar; mnemonic devices and catchy songs are great for memorizing some of the more arbitrary rules of both French and English.
In general, my teaching style is open, energetic and respectful. I encourage discussion as much as possible, while always respecting student's right to decline. Language learning is a journey, not a destination, so I try to guide my students on their path to fluency by providing a supportive environment.
