Maija was my colleague when I worked as a Part I Architectural Assistant, and she has continued to be a mentor since — someone I can always turn to for advice on architecture, construction, and career development. She is conscientious and observant, and has the ability to extract talent and passions in others, helping them discover their own direction and motivation. After discussing a project or challenge with Maija, I always leave the conversation feeling inspired and excited, full of ideas. Because of her wide range of experience she has an impressive depth of knowledge, a rich library of references and recommended readings. I particularly value her expertise in environmentally responsible construction and materiality. On top of all that, she is incredibly caring and a joy to be around!

Through experience as a designer, Maija has a first-class understanding of the techniques and strategies that are best used to progress creative work. Her knowledge of the ‘tools of the trade’ covers a wide range of analogue and digital techniques, and she has a practical understanding of how best to employ these in the design development and representation of a project. Maija taught me a new approach towards architecture that I still carry with me 6 years later. Her rigorous and regular way of teaching helped me to be very structured but also be motivated to always progress in terms of design and production. Always ready with ideas and references, there was never a tutorial where I felt I didn't make a step forward.
