About Elena

I am a Russian-trained concert pianist and teacher with 23 years of teaching experience and more than two decades of professional performing experience.

I graduated with honors from the Academic Music College at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. I also completed postgraduate studies at the Gnessin Academy and later taught there for several years.

As a soloist and chamber musician, I have performed in concert halls, festivals and international tours across Europe, Asia, South America and the CIS. My professional work has also included masterclasses and competition jury work.

As a chamber musician, I won First Prize at the Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Verona in 2010 and the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Karlsruhe in 2011. I have also recorded two chamber music CDs for Melodiya, one of Russia’s principal classical recording labels.

My teaching is rooted in the Russian classical tradition, in which technique, listening, musical thought and artistic expression are developed together. I translate this professional training into clear and practical work appropriate to each student’s level and goals.

I work with adult beginners, returning pianists, advanced amateurs, motivated teenagers, and students preparing for RCM, ABRSM or Trinity examinations, music-school or conservatory auditions, recitals and other performances. Lessons are taught online in English or Russian.

My aim is not simply to help a student complete more repertoire. Each new piece should become both an artistically convincing performance and a step towards stronger reading, more secure rhythm and technique, a more refined ear, clearer musical understanding and increasingly independent work.

A completed piece or examination level should leave the student with more than a finished result. It should also strengthen the reading, rhythm, technique, listening and musical understanding needed for future work.

It is possible to move from one piece or grade to the next while important foundations remain weak. Reading is still slow, rhythm insecure, technique poorly organized, and practice consists mainly of repetition followed by correction at the next lesson.

My lessons are designed so that the repertoire and the pianist’s own abilities develop together.

Reading, rhythm, coordination, technique, listening, memory, harmony, form, phrasing and expression are developed as connected parts of one musical system through the repertoire itself.

Before the hands begin to repeat, we establish what is written, how the musical material is organized, where the phrase is moving, what sound and character we are aiming for, and what movement and technical organization can produce that result. We then work phrase by phrase, connecting musical intention, inner hearing, physical movement and sound.

This does not place analysis above practical playing. It prevents repetition without a clear musical and physical purpose. Technique serves sound and freedom; understanding of the score serves expression; and an artistically convincing performance remains an essential result.

For adult beginners, this means developing secure reading, rhythm, coordination, listening and healthy technical habits from the start. Returning and continuing pianists rebuild missing foundations and learn to organize their practice more effectively. Advanced students refine sound, technique, structure, interpretation, memory and performance reliability.

For adults with limited practice time, this approach makes work between lessons more focused. Instead of repeatedly playing through a piece and hoping the problems will disappear, the student understands what to listen for, what to organize and how to practice each stage.

For students preparing for RCM, ABRSM or Trinity examinations, the same system supports both the immediate examination requirements and the broader musical and technical foundation expected at the level. Preparation is not limited to polishing a fixed program.

The introductory meeting offered through Superprof is used to discuss your goals, previous experience, lesson format and whether this approach is the right fit. It is not used as a shortened working lesson.

The first full working lesson allows me to assess your current foundation, repertoire and practice habits and establish the most useful order of work. Afterwards, you receive a concise written summary of the main priorities and direction of study.

Regular lessons are intended for students who value consistent weekly work and long-term musical development rather than occasional correction of isolated pieces.

A small number of regular weekly places are available for the 2026-27 school year.
