About Fitzgerald
Science doesn't have to feel confusing or stressful. I'm Fitzgerald, a SACNASP-registered pharmaceutical chemist based in Ballito and teaching across Umhlanga and the North Coast, and I've spent a year and a half helping learners and students make sense of the subjects they find hardest.
I tutor Mathematics, Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) for Grade 11 and 12, and Pharmaceutical Sciences for university students. Most learners aren't bad at science. They've just been missing one building block, and once that gap is fixed everything else starts to click. That's what I focus on: finding exactly where the marks are being lost, explaining it in plain language, and practising until it feels natural.
I work with real exam questions, so you know what to expect on the day. I'm patient, I never make you feel silly for asking, and I celebrate progress, however small. Whether you're fighting to pass or pushing for a distinction, we'll work at your pace and towards your goal.

My lessons are built around your own marks and your own exams. In the first session I find out where you are losing marks, then we focus on those topics instead of re-teaching what you already know. Every question is broken down step by step, so you see how to read it, what the examiner is looking for, and how to set out your answer to earn full marks. Because I work as a pharmaceutical chemist, I link theory to real-life examples, which makes ideas like moles, redox reactions, algebra and drug action easier to understand and remember.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review of the last topic, then we move into new concepts or past-paper questions on your weak areas. You leave with a short set of practice problems, and we go over them together at the next session. Lessons are relaxed but focused, and no question is too basic.
My lessons are aimed at Grade 11 and 12 learners doing Mathematics and Physical Sciences (CAPS or IEB), from those who are struggling and need to rebuild confidence to those aiming for distinctions. I also help university students with Pharmaceutical Sciences, including pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry and calculations. I offer one-on-one lessons and small groups, in person in the Ballito area or online.
