About Shawna
Passionate conservatory-trained musician with a Bachelor of Music in Performance and over 15 years of professional teaching experience, I specialize in piano, violin, guitar, flute, clarinet and early music foundations for students of all ages and levels. My journey began as a child prodigy, performing publicly by age 8, and led to rigorous training at a prestigious conservatory. I’ve prepared dozens of students for RCM and ABRSM examinations (Grades 1–10, ARCT), with a 100% pass rate and numerous distinctions. Many have won regional festivals, secured music scholarships, or pursued professional paths. Certified in Suzuki Violin (Books 1–5) and experienced with Kodály, Orff, and Dalcroze methods, I create nurturing, structured lessons grounded in healthy technique, musicality, and joy. My teaching adapts to each student’s goals—whether mastering Bach partitas, improvising jazz piano, strumming pop songs, or building pre-instrument skills through rhythm and movement. I perform regularly as a soloist and chamber musician, bringing real-world insight into every lesson. Patient, encouraging, and deeply committed, I inspire confidence and lifelong love for music. My student-centered approach customizes every lesson to your goals, skill level, and learning style – perfect for young beginners discovering music, intermediate players honing technique, or advanced students preparing for RCM/ABRSM exams, recitals, or auditions.
Piano: Build solid technique through scales, arpeggios, sight-reading, and repertoire in classical, jazz, pop, or contemporary styles. Develop musicality, pedaling, dynamics, and theory for expressive performance.
Violin: Master posture, bow control, intonation, vibrato, and shifting with Suzuki, traditional, or fiddle methods. Explore Baroque to modern works while fostering ear training and ensemble readiness.
Guitar: From acoustic strumming to classical fingerstyle, learn chords, scales, improvisation, and theory across folk, rock, blues, or jazz. Emphasis on rhythm, tone, and practical musicianship.
Early Music Foundations (ages 4-8): Joyful introduction via Dalcroze, Kodály, or Orff methods – rhythm games, solfège, movement, and pre-instrument skills to spark lifelong love for music.
