About Matthew
My passion is to show everything is possible having most evidently done just that in education attaining two A*s in A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics (98% & 94% respectively) as well as graduating with a 2.1 in BEng-Environmental-Engineering. To achieve the best results it is important to be smart which is different from intelligence. Intelligence is something we are born with but to be smart is to make the right decisions for instance strictly following a revision timetable, perfecting exam technique, consolidating knowledge, something I focus on in my teaching.
Teaching is the most rewarding career; being able to say this having already worked in finance, engineering, research, media, and horticulture among other areas. Having incredibly enjoyed all my previous experiences there is something about giving back and bettering young peoples lives that enthuses me to want to focus my career around teaching confirmed having most recently worked as an UCL-Ambassador. The more passion I give as a teacher the more I get back from my pupils, which makes for a working environment like no other; one where pupils want to learn and where work can become mutually pleasurable, or as my pupils would say 'cool'.
I exercise initiative having taken part in the BBC-2 show Big-Allotment-Challenge, which aired this January with a drive that got me through to become the youngest gardener to be on terrestrial TV. A passion that has developed a desire to teach so as to be able to share my scientific passions! Being highlighted as a scientific gardener due to my unique approach of using pH testing kits and techy sensors a key mindset reflects my geeky tendencies ideal for becoming a science teacher.
I have further confirmed my passion for teaching having spent an entire day at St.Paul's where I attained an invaluable insight considering I was able to sit in, help and talk to pupils studying both mathematics and physics from key-stage-3, to GCSE and A-Levels. I further enjoyed St.Paul's as teachers are also encouraged to run extracurricular activates, which allows a real sense of community to develop; key as a school should not only be where students learn but also be a place where students feel at home. Through my passion for teaching I have volunteered as a mentor (Into-University-Lambeth) guiding an aspiring engineer providing extra tuition in GCSE-mathematics as this was seen as a pivotal skill to help him achieve this goal. I have also worked as a teacher's assistant (Polish-Saturday-School. This has required me to teach students in Polish reading and writing to 5 - 8 years olds as well as me having to plan & run my own classes. As an UCL-Ambassador I worked with secondary school students on behalf of UCL-Widening-Participation, which allowed to me to guide and inspire teenagers who were looking to enter higher education. Overall having worked across a range of ages from 5-18 years old I have become very adaptable to a range of teaching situations that should prove key in settling into any school science department.
Furthermore I also share knowledge having run YouTube & Wordpress blogs where I educate people about healthy lifestyle and gardening showing my natural enjoyment for teaching.
