Previous tutoring of year 11, year 9 and year 7 students. I helped one of my students to go from a C grade in December to an A grade in just 6 months of tutoring, and received special comments from a senior sixth form staff member with regards to my teaching methods.

From early to late secondary school ages, including A level, however I have previously tutored one student of primary school age.
The initial lesson would focus on making the student feel at ease with me, and become comfortable whilst working. It's often overlooked that the nerves of a student can be perceived as a lack of knowledge, which is not the case. We discuss what the student is strong at, as well as self-examining topics in which progress can be made.
The first few minutes of any lesson where a brand new topic is introduced would always entail a small discussion to the types of mathematical methods and topics being used in the new topic. I also establish a programme of homework relating to the topics just covered, whilst also ensuring to overload the student. I require the student to be focused and driven, with the desire to learn and improve so as to make the most of the time we have.
At the end of any major topic, the student would do a small informal test covering a whole host of questions on the topic. We would then go through the answers and discover where the student has been going wrong and how they could improve.
