About Carlotta

I’m Carlotta, an artist and tutor with a First-Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from The Slade. Whilst on my BA, I studied on an exchange programme at the New York Studio School, as well as Philosophy and Aesthetics at UCL. Over the past 7+ years, I have been teaching and tutoring alongside working as a practising artist, exhibiting locally and internationally.

Since 2019, I’ve worked with students across a wide range of disciplines and levels, supporting portfolios, applications, and creative development for top UK and international art schools.

I specialise in helping students build strong, original portfolios and develop the confidence to talk about and develop their work clearly. I have worked with students from GCSE, A-Level, IB, Foundation, BA level, as well as adult learners returning to art or building a practice from scratch.

My teaching is empathetic, direct, practical, and tailored. Sessions focus on achieving real progress, whether that’s improving technical ability, refining a portfolio, or helping you develop a clearer artistic direction. I break things down into achievable steps so you can see real momentum in your work.

What I offer:

- Portfolio development and art school applications (UK & international)
- Expert feedback on work in progress to push ideas further and strengthen outcomes
- Technical support across media, including drawing, painting, photography, film, sculpture, and mixed media
- Concept development and visual thinking to help build stronger, more original work
- Structured support for essays, artist statements and written work
- Interview preparation and application guidance for competitive art schools
- Creative mentoring for students feeling stuck, unsure, or lacking direction

My teaching is shaped around each student’s individual goals, strengths, and way of learning. I like to combine structured guidance with a more intuitive, open-ended approach, so lessons feel both focused and creatively engaging. My aim is always to help students build confidence in their own ideas while developing solid technical skills and a clearer personal visual language.

In practice, this means a mix of workshops, portfolio reviews, visual research, artist references, and open discussion. I try to keep sessions active and varied, and I think constructive feedback works best when it’s honest but also supportive and encouraging.

When someone is stuck, I adjust my approach rather than pushing the same method. I often explore different learning styles with students, whether they respond more to visual material, discussion, hands-on making, or written reflection, so we can find what actually helps things click.

I also place a lot of importance on structure and organisation, especially for students working towards deadlines or applications. Breaking bigger projects into smaller steps, setting realistic timelines, and working through tasks together in lessons tends to make a big difference in both progress and confidence.

Sessions are usually 1–2 hours depending on the student and what they’re working towards. Longer or more intensive lessons are sometimes useful for portfolio preparation or applications. I teach online and in person in London, depending on what works best.

I graduated with First-Class Honours in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art. Before that, I completed a Foundation Diploma with Distinction at Brighton City College, and I also took part in an exchange at the New York Studio School. While at UCL, I studied philosophy and aesthetics alongside my art practice, which still plays a strong role in how I think and teach.

My own practice moves across painting, drawing, photography, film and performance. In 2018, I took part in a dance and art residency at Mahler & LeWitt Studios with the Trisha Brown Dance Company. Alongside my studio work, I’ve assisted artists in London and exhibited internationally.

I’ve been tutoring and mentoring since 2019, working with students of all ages and levels, both independently and through agencies. Over time I’ve supported students across Fine Art, Animation, Architecture, Fashion, Film, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography, Sculpture, and Game Design, as well as helping with art writing and language support in French and Italian.

I’ve helped students gain places at institutions including University of the Arts London, Goldsmiths, UCL, Parsons, NYU, RISD, SAIC, and SCAD. Many of my students have gone straight onto BA and BFA courses without a foundation year.

I work with students at all stages from GCSE, A-Level, IB, Foundation, BA, MA, as well as adults returning to art or changing direction. I enjoy working with:

- students building portfolios for applications or scholarships
- emerging artists developing confidence and direction
- students working across interdisciplinary or experimental practices
- those needing support with writing (artist statements, essays, EPQs, dissertations)
- international students developing English for art and design or preparing for interviews
- adults developing or returning to a creative practice
