My methodology varies per individual: Initially, I engage in conversation with the student with the purpose of understanding their knowledge, strengths and weaknesses on the topic of discussion. Then, based upon the provided information, I formulate sequential and gradual lessons to help them start from what they know towards what they wish to know.
My belief in learning (in general) is that there is no such thing as a "stupid" person--only a bad tutor. I see this trend prevalent in public education full of teachers qualified in the knowledge of the subject their teaching, but not in how to communicate it. Thus, leaving majority of students uninterested or feeling that the topic they're learning is too difficult. Yes, a student may make mistakes and fumble in the process of learning, but that itself IS learning. And my hope is that I can provide a learning experience for students willing to learn in such a manner that they won't feel "stupid" but excited to learn
