About Álvaro

I lived in the Canary Islands for 20 years. I studied Law in Madrid and this year I came to Edinburgh to finish my MA International Relations and Geopolitics.

I try to improve my English and German every day. Knowing a language will help you in your future job, but being able to go to another country and have conversations and even make new friends is, for me, the most important thing.

I want that my students feel comfortable with learning and that they don't see it as an obligation.That's why I like to talk to them to find out what they are looking for/expect from the lessons. In my opinion, this way the classes run more smoothly and the results are better.

Viví 20 años en la Islas Canarias. Estudié Derecho en Madrid y he venido este año a Edimburgo a terminar mi Máster en Relaciones Internaciones y Geopolítica.

Trato de mejorar mi inglés y mi alemán cada día. Saber un idioma te ayudará en tu futuro laboral, pero poder ir a otro país y mantener conversaciones e incluso hacer nuevos amigos es, para mí, lo más importante.

Quiero que mis alumnos se sientan cómodos con el aprendizaje y que no lo vean como una obligación. Por eso, me gusta hablar para saber qué buscan/esperan de las clases. En mi opinión, de esta forma las clases se desarrollan con mayor fluidez y los resultados son mejores.

About the lesson

I like to talk to my students about different topics and gradually improve their listening skills, but above all I like to listen to them and see how they gain confidence in speaking Spanish. Of course, studying grammar and getting used to writing are also points that need to be practised regularly. I try to get the most out of the class, so I believe in the individual work of the student and the help of the teacher to correct their mistakes.

Me gusta hablar con mis alumnos sobre diferentes temas y mejorar poco a poco su oído, pero sobre todo me gusta escucharlos y ver cómo ganan confianza al hablar español. Por supuesto, estudiar la gramática y practicar la escritura son puntos que también hay que ejercitar regularmente. Intento sacar el máximo partido a la clase, por lo que creo en el trabajo individual del alumno y en la ayuda del profesor para corregir sus errores.
