I know what it's like to not know a certain language because I migrated to Canada from Cuba with my family at the age of 8 with zero English! Without any help from my parents I taught myself to speak English to keep from getting bullied for my accent at school as a child, and I figured out a way to blend English and Spanish through the use of common words, as well as listening to songs in the opposite language and trying to decipher them. Now many years later, everyone comes to me to translate Spanish into English and back for them for legal documents, songs, emails, letters and much more.
Give it a shot! You might learn more from my sense of humour and happy attitude than you ever will at an ESL centre!
