About María
I was born in Madrid and lived there for many years, so I am a native Spanish speaker. Languages have become an essential part of who I am, and I love the variety of opportunities they have provided me with. Learning languages has given me the chance to welcome new ideas, people and skills into my life, and I consider everyone should experience this satisfaction. This is why I decided to become a teacher and the reason that I enjoy teaching my language.
Since I was very young I realised I really enjoyed learning languages and became a tutor in Spain at a very young age. After finalising my degree, I moved to the UK and completed my PGCE to be able to teach languages. Since then, I have been teaching Spanish and French in different schools in the country, preparing students for GCSE, iGCSE and A-levels. I have taught in many different contexts both in Spain and the UK, tutoring individually, in small groups, working at languages academies, a prestigious UK independent school and other schools and institutions.

I love to make my lessons as enjoyable and personalised as possible. As a Spanish native speaker, I can use my knowledge of the language but also the culture to create engaging lessons. I believe learning a language is more than just learning words, and it is important to learn and practice all skills. Learning a language is a process that requires students to constantly revisit what they have learnt and to progressively build on that, and this is why I put consolidating and expanding knowledge at the core of my teaching.
As I am a native speaker, I can tailor my lessons to whatever your needs are. If you are in the process of taking your exams we could take a more serious approach, or if you are interested in exploring the language at your own pace for the fun of it, that can also be done!
