My Tutoring Approach As a tutor, I bring a kind, creative, and patient approach to every session. My goal is to help your child succeed, not just academically, but emotionally as well. With a background in childhood development, I understand how to support children when they feel discouraged or hit a roadblock. I take the time to really listen, encourage, and adapt my teaching so each child feels confident and capable. Teaching Method and Techniques I believe learning should be fun. I often design lessons around your child’s interests to make the material more meaningful. For example, if your child loves baseball, we might practice math using baseball word problems or practice literacy by reading books about baseball. I like to break down tasks step by step and use positive reinforcement strategies such as stickers or small prizes like pencils or erasers. A Typical Lesson Plan A typical session starts with a quick check-in with your child about how their day is going and what they have been up to. I find creating a personal connection with students really makes a difference in their academic achievement. At the first session, I do an intake by talking to the parents and by working with the child to see what specific areas we need to focus on. Then I will work 1 on 1 with your child, helping them to develop their skills in those identified areas of need. After the session, I will email you fun worksheets for your child to work on that will help them practice their skills between sessions. I also will provide books at your child's reading level for you to borrow that are aligned with their interests. What Sets Me Apart What sets me apart is the way I personalize each lesson to fit your child’s needs and interests. I create a safe, supportive space where kids feel encouraged to try, even when the work gets hard. I am a very compassionate and empathetic person and my creativity helps me to find the best approach to help your child master a concept. Overall, I truly love working with children and helping them grow. Who I Work With I primarily work with children in preschool through 4th grade. Whether your child needs extra support, confidence building, or wants to get ahead/prepared for future content, I’ll meet them where they are and help them grow.

I've really seen such a big difference in my daughters math and reading skills since she started working with Amy. My daughter used to dread math, but now she’s actually excited to show us what she’s learned. Amy is patient, creative, and very loving. I can really tell how much she cares about my daughter. One time she came over to the house my daughter had been crying and Amy immediately gave her the biggest hug and did everything to get her to smile again. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a tutor who truly cares.
I was Amy's co-worker an afterschool program we both work for, and she is really one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. I know that one of the things that the parents and our supervisor love about her is how she can adapt her approach to teaching for each child. She doesn't just hand out the same worksheet to all of the kids. She takes the time to learn about what every single kid likes and what skills they need to focus on. You can tell the moment you meet her how enthusiastic she is about teaching and helping kids learn and I highly recommend her.
