My passion for accounting is built on a solid foundation of academic study and practical, real-world application. I hold a Master's Degree from Georgia State University, where I developed a deep understanding of financial reporting, auditing, and taxation. Beyond the classroom, I have 3 years of professional experience in the financial sector. This background allows me to teach accounting not just as a set of textbook rules, but as the language of business. I frequently analyze financial statements and investment trends in my personal and professional life, which enables me to help students understand the "why" behind the numbers, rather than just memorizing debits and credits. My teaching philosophy centers on patience and simplification. I recognize that for many students, accounting can feel intimidating or abstract. To combat this, I break down complex topics, such as the accounting cycle, depreciation methods, or cash flow analysis into logical, manageable steps. I prefer a collaborative, one-on-one approach where I can assess a student's specific learning style and adapt the lesson accordingly. For example, I often use real-world analogies, such as managing a personal budget or analyzing a stock portfolio, to make concepts like accruals and deferrals click. My goal is to move the student from confusion to confidence, ensuring they understand the underlying logic rather than just memorizing formulas. In terms of experience, I have spent the last 6 years helping students navigate the challenges of business education. I have worked primarily with high school and college undergraduate students in one-on-one settings, both online and in person. Whether helping a freshman prepare for their first Financial Accounting exam or assisting a professional with Excel-based managerial accounting tasks, I focus on creating a supportive environment where questions are encouraged. I am committed to helping my students achieve their academic goals while gaining a practical skill set that will serve them in their future careers.

About the lesson

My philosophy is that accounting is a narrative, not just a math problem. If you understand the story the numbers are telling, the mechanics (debits/credits) become intuitive.

Simplification & Analogies: I avoid jargon until the concept is understood. I use real-world analogies—like comparing inventory management to grocery shopping, or accruals to paying a credit card bill—to make abstract concepts click.

Scaffolding: I use a "I do, We do, You do" approach. We start by watching me solve a problem while I explain my mental logic. Then we solve one together. Finally, you solve one while I observe and correct only when necessary.

The Investor Mindset: Because I actively manage my own investments and analyze market trends, I teach students to look at financial statements the way an investor does. We don't just balance the sheet; we ask what the sheet says about the company's health.
