About Rebecca

Hi, I have experience tutoring maths at GCSE and A-level. I have taught a number of students at a range of different levels over the last two years. Through this I have helped students struggling to achieve their pass at GCSE and boosted students hoping to achieve the highest marks possible by pushing them beyond the school syllabus.

I have recently graduated with a 1st in Mathematics from the university of Exeter, and am about to continue my studies with a masters in mathematical modelling. I've always loved maths and have found myself enjoying helping friends with the mathsy elements of their studies, it was these friends who suggested I start tutoring . With A*s in maths GCSE and A-level, and an A in A-level further maths, I have a solid understanding at this level, and a belief that maths can be fun!!

About the lesson

In these strange times I think it is important students are able to continue their learning and maintain some structure. I am able to offer regular sessions to help catch up on missed content for students due to take exams in the following years. I think this will be particularly important for year 10 and AS level students. For those wishing to progress from GCSE to A level I am able to consolidate the higher level topics to make this transition easier and to keep the maths muscle working. A level students who wish to study maths or sciences at university will need a firm grasp on the A level course especially calculus and I am happy to assist with this.

In the first few tutorials I try to identify strengths and problem areas, this will allow me to work out a personalised action plan, systematically taking the areas of least confidence and working on them until they become your strongest topics (I've found it's all too easy to just do the things you are good at and avoid the things you find hard). When it comes to maths, practise, and working through problems is often the best way to learn, so we'll talk over example questions. Exam style questions will ensure a full understanding of concepts and an ability to apply them. Most importantly, maths should be enjoyable, and learning happens best when you are happy and relaxed, so I'll try and make my sessions as fun and interesting as possible, and let you lead the way in terms of how you learn best.
