About Theo

I am originally from Belgium and have just graduated with a master's of biomedical engineering at Imperial College London. Throughout my secondary school and university experience, I have continuously dedicated some time to offer informal tutoring sessions to my peers and to external students. I have always loved seeing my "tutees" light up in front of me when they finally understand a complex concept, and there is frankly no better reward for me than this! I am super patient and friendly (well, in my opinion :) and am always willing to put the time and effort to make sure my tutee fully and thoroughly understands the topic we are looking at. I'm also very flexible and available to help whenever required, and aim to be more of a mentor than a simple academic tutor. If this sounds good don't hesitate to contact me!

Hello!

My name is Theo, I am offering affordable online tuition in mathematics and/or physics - this for any level. I have just graduated from Imperial College London with a master’s in biomedical engineering (First Class Honours 76.1%) and am now starting a second master's of science in food security and biodiversity.

Just a bit of background about me so that you know what to expect! I have taught many peers informally throughout secondary school and university, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. In a certain way, being able to teach effectively and seeing it bear fruit is the ultimate reward for me. One thing to note is that I do not possess official education skills, or an extensive record of formal teaching experience. This is reflected in my rates, which I not only try to keep down for this reason but also because not every parent has the luxury of paying for expensive tuition. In this sense, be aware that the tutoring sessions will also be somewhat of a learning experience for myself! I am also not a huge fan of "programmes" as I have observed that everyone has a different learning style, and it does require some effort on the tutor's part to observe their students to best tailor the teaching style - this is what you could call my methodology. I am however very organised and vastly confident in my abilities, given the positive feedback from the peers I have helped in the past (who often recommended me to get into tutoring) and my overall academic experience.

One thing I would also like to mention, is that I aim to be as much of a mentor as I can be to the students. I know how “boring” and “bland” private tuition can be for them, and my goal is to be more of a “buddy” than a teacher in their eyes. In that sense I would always encourage them to get support from me whenever they need it. This, in my opinion, can make the teaching experience more fun, motivating, and break the monotony of conventional school teaching. I know very well what it is to be a student and aim to do my best to make the experience as engaging as possible for my tutees.

Though the subjects I would like to teach are mathematics and physics, I have included below a list of the courses I have taken during my engineering degree. I am more than happy to help out with any of these as well, be it at primary, GCSE, A- or university level.

• Mathematics
• Electromagnetics
• Electrical Engineering
• Thermodynamics
