About Amber
A swimmer cannot always perform well simply because they know what they are supposed to do. Tension, uncertainty, poor breathing, and lack of confidence can affect technique just as much as physical ability. That is why I place a strong emphasis on creating a calm and supportive learning environment. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying something again without feeling judged. My experience in the water has taught me the importance of staying composed and working through challenges rather than fighting them. I bring that mindset into my instruction through patient explanations, manageable exercises, and constructive corrections. Beginners can take the time they need to develop water confidence and fundamental skills, while experienced swimmers can work on technical details and performance. I believe confidence should grow alongside ability. When swimmers begin to relax, understand their movements, and trust their preparation, they often discover that they are capable of much more than they initially believed.

Feedback should never make a swimmer feel like they are constantly doing something wrong. My approach is to identify the changes that will make the biggest difference, explain them clearly, and give you enough opportunity to practise them successfully. During the lesson, I observe your movement from different perspectives where possible and provide specific corrections rather than overwhelming you with too many instructions at once. We then repeat the skill until you begin to feel the improvement for yourself. I believe that moment—when something suddenly feels easier, smoother, or more natural—is where confidence starts to grow. As you improve, I gradually reduce the amount of guidance so you can take greater ownership of your technique. Whether you are learning your first proper stroke or refining an advanced one, each correction has a purpose. The goal is to turn conscious adjustments into natural habits that remain with you beyond the lesson.
