About Aaliyah
I am an avid reader and enjoy my weekly Wikipedia deep dives. I am a high school senior from Brooklyn, NY. Safe to say, I love language.
In terms of personality, I am quite easygoing and am no stranger to casual conversation. However, I would like to remain focused on our tasks because I am dedicated to your education. I offer easy-to-understand explanations about complex subjects, and I always use personal stories to connect with you and establish that we are on the same page.

I teach fundamentally and work upwards. I start with the basics of language, such as syntax and grammar. Then, I will delve into sentence structure, such as conjunctions and clauses. Afterwards, we will get into the fun part: the language itself. In my opinion, expressive language, like hyperbole and imagery, makes literature worth reading. After that, we can begin analyzing literature from both contemporary and classic authors. Finally, we will get into essay writing, especially essay structure(s). My resources are Khan Academy and the College Board, as they offer many practice exams with plenty of questions. We will study prose and poetry alike, with more emphasis on poetry. This is because I feel that poetry is more prone to ambiguity; when I took the class, my peers and I struggled a lot in that field.
However, I am inclined to work with your needs. If you need more clarity on a particular aspect of literacy, say, grammar rules, we can begin from there.
My lessons are ideally suited for those who are currently in middle school and high school. I chose to tutor that demographic because of the ongoing literacy crisis among teens and younger individuals.
My goals are to make the pupil(s) feel like they aren't in a rigid classroom, but in a flowing conversation where they can learn and apply their skills to other media, such as news analysis. It is important that our young minds can decipher what is being put in front of them.
