About Johannes

I am a 27 year old from Hanover, Ontario, Canada. I have lived in Japan for 1 year and have studied Japanese profusely. I am a native English speaker, my Japanese abilities are limited so I am seeking out beginner students. Where I will thrive is helping students find the best resources to learn Japanese - I know the best books to follow for clear and comprehensive results. While helping students find the best resources for learning Japanese, I will also teach students the best methods to absorb Japanese - which is to not limit oneself's learning method, and learn in all possible ways. I will also provide my own lessons/tips/guidelines that will emphasis proper Japanese pronunciation, proper grammar, and proper sentence structure.

About the lesson

If someone is brand new to Japanese, I would first direct them to "Tae Kim's Guide to Learning Japanese Online". This is the best book in my opinion to study if you want to learn Japanese. I would direct all my students (beginners) to learn from this book and it's available free online. I am a tutor, but this is the best book to use for anyone's overall studies.

My typical lesson plan (intro) would look like this:

1.Speaking -basic phrases (10 minutes)
2.Pronouncing the alphabet - learning how to correctly pronounce the katanana alphabet to understand the structural build of the verbal language. (15 minutes)
3. A brief lesson on hiragana and kanji (5 minutes)
4. A basic nouns lesson -learn to pronounce some common nouns. (5 minutes)
5. teaching the fundamentals and basics of Japanese grammar: Intro to particles, verb conjugation, the 2 types of adjectives, and adjective conjugation. (15 minutes)
6. Teaching basic Japanese sentence structure and how it differs from English. (10 minutes)

What sets me a part as a tutor is that I have lived in Japan for a year teaching English - however during this time I had a lot of opportunity to study Japanese and I believe I was efficient at learning the language. I now want to help others with the skills I have gained. I have hundreds of hours of notes taken and I feel I have a vast knowledge of Japanese that I would be very helpful to someone who is at a beginner level and looking for the most efficient and effective way to learn Japanese.
