About Yuga
Hello! My name is Yuga.
I was born in Hawaii and lived there for the first nine years of my life before moving to Japan, where I have spent the past ten years. During that time, I attended a Japanese high school, giving me firsthand experience with how Japanese is naturally spoken in everyday life, in schools, and in professional settings. Being bilingual in English and Japanese allows me to explain difficult grammar concepts clearly while also helping students understand the cultural nuances behind the language.
In addition to my real-world experience, I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and studied Japanese Literature HL. This course involved in-depth analysis of Japanese literature, language, and speech, strengthening both my understanding of the language and my ability to explain it to others.
Whether you're just starting with hiragana or looking to improve your fluency through authentic conversations and reading materials, I'm happy to adapt my lessons to your goals. I aim to help you build confidence and communicate in Japanese naturally, just as it is used in Japan.

Japanese
Every lesson is tailored to the student's current level and goals. For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation by teaching hiragana, katakana, basic kanji, essential grammar, and practical vocabulary. As students progress to the intermediate and advanced levels, lessons become much more communication-focused through reading authentic Japanese articles, books, or other materials, discussing them together, and practicing natural conversations entirely in Japanese. I also help students improve pronunciation, expand vocabulary, and develop confidence so they can communicate naturally in real-life situations.
What sets me apart is my firsthand experience with modern Japanese education and daily life in Japan. Rather than relying only on textbook examples, I teach expressions and communication styles that people genuinely use, giving students practical skills they can apply when traveling, studying, working, or living in Japan.
