About Chun Fung

I am the 2nd generation of Guqin students under the renowned Guqin master Tsar Teh-yun (蔡德允). Since 2010 studied under Dr Tse Chun-yan (謝俊仁) in Hong Kong. After all these years around performing Qin and other Qin related activities, I am officially allowed to teach these special skills abroad: I moved from Hong Kong to Australia in 2021. This is the perfect lesson to learn the true nature of Guqin: for entertaining oneself and a larger group of up to 8 - 10 good friends. My style of Guqin follows Tsar's tradition, aiming for a calm and relaxed mood. Think of playing Guqin as like doing a soft yoga with relaxing music, or a musical meditation. If you are looking for such an experience, this is the lesson for you.
As for Yangqin, I won the 43rd School Music Festival Yangqin Solo Advanced class in Hong Kong in 1991. Learnt from one of the masters in HKCO (Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra). I can teach pieces up to grade 9-10 (though limited given my heavier involvement in Guqin).

About the lesson

Teach Guqin or Yangqin lessons from beginner to advanced level. Following the traditional way of teaching passed down by renowned Guqin teacher Tsar Teh-yun (蔡德允). From beginner to all levels up to stage performance. Suitable for all students with interest in this traditional Chinese musical instrument. Majority will be teaching with silk string but could adjust according to students' needs to metal-nylon. Aesthetic perspective is quite different from the mainland players: aim for a relaxing and entertaining mood rather than showing off on-stage. Demos of my playing can be found and being shared on some social media.

Perfect! Very patient and detailed, even with fixing problems. Can tell he's knowledgeable of and enjoys the qin a lot. Even helps source your own qin, which is probably a must for anyone new. Enjoying the lessons and happy he took me on.
