About Michael
I am a 24-year-old recent university graduate, with considerable experience coaching children and youth in a wide variety of sports. I am pursuing a career as a teacher and will be starting the Teacher Education program at UBC this fall. My passion for tennis started as a young kid and has only grown ever since. After competing for several years on my local high school team and making provincials for consecutive years, I then began competing in Tennis BC events, winning tournaments up to the 4.0 level. Currently, I compete at the 4.5 level. I am fully trained and certified as a Tennis Canada instructor and I am eager to share my knowledge and passion for the game with you.

My goal as your tennis instructor is to share my knowledge and passion for tennis with you in the hopes of bringing your game to the next level in a supportive and engaging environment.
For young players or people new to the game, my lessons will typically focus on basic skill development, understanding the rules, and having fun so that students are inspired to stick with the sport and learn more.
For intermediate or more advanced players, I will tailor each lesson to focus on the specific parts of your game, technique, or skill-set that you want to improve. I am also available to serve as a hitting partner for those who just want extra practice or who are preparing for competition.
For all students, I try to ensure there is time in every session to play actual games as it is in this context that I feel the best learning often takes place.

Michael Yurkovich takes time and care when it comes to tasks and challenges. As a teacher Michael always puts the students first to make sure they understand and can achieve everything they want to accomplish. In the past I have witnessed Michael teach and I was intrigued by how much fun the lessons were and how he always stepped up to help with hands on experience. When you need to learn something new I would go go Michael he’s an expert.
Michael is a very good tennis trainer he really helped improve my form especially on my backhand. I think what makes his coaching really good is his ability to communicate his teaching well but also have the patience when someone is trying to learn something for the first time. For example, he was teaching me how bit a proper second serve and although at first I really struggled he patiently told me the things I needed to fix until I got a hang of it. Overall he is a kind man who evidently has a passion for tennis.
I have known Michael for over 20 years and been privileged to watch his growth as a superb athlete, particularly tennis. He is a lifelong learner and is dedicated to excellence in all he does. He displays patience, active listening and deep understanding of others; these attributes serve him well as a tutor.
I’ve known Michael for years and he’s always engaged in sports with a high level of passion and competitiveness while maintaining integrity and sportsmanship. He’s also very athletic and coordinated with an ability to demonstrate challenging moves.
I have known Michael for 8 years. I believe he will make an excellent teacher because of his patient demeanour and commitment to his craft.
Michael is a stand-up tennis player that has made the rounds dominating 2.5-4.0 singles at local Lower Mainland tournaments.
He is a great motivator and his tenacity/dedication to a variety of sports enables him to teach not only the fundamentals of tennis, but the mindset to improve and develop as well.Michael is a fantastic tennis coach. He's patient, understands the game incredibly well and overall a great coach. I'd recommend anyone to have lessons with Michael!
