About Rena
Swimming has given me a great deal of technical knowledge, but I have never believed that good coaching is about showing a student how much the instructor knows. Knowledge only becomes valuable when it helps another person improve. As an approved and experienced tutor, I focus on translating technical ideas into explanations and exercises that make sense to the individual swimmer in front of me. I may demonstrate a movement, break it into smaller pieces, use a simple comparison, or let you experiment until you recognize the correct feeling yourself. The approach can change depending on what helps you learn best. I want you to understand your breathing, body position, rhythm, stroke mechanics, pacing, and efficiency rather than simply memorizing instructions. Over time, I hope you become increasingly capable of recognizing and correcting your own swimming. For me, that is one of the clearest signs that coaching has genuinely made a difference.

Once your technique and confidence begin to support greater demands, we can gradually expand what you are capable of doing in the water. This might mean swimming longer continuous distances, introducing intervals, improving pacing, increasing intensity, or learning how to maintain technique when fatigue begins to appear. The progression depends on your goals. Someone swimming for general fitness may want to build stamina and enjoy longer sessions, while a triathlete or open-water swimmer may need more structured endurance and pacing work. I do not believe in adding distance simply for the sake of saying that you swam more lengths. We increase the workload with a reason and pay attention to how your technique responds. The aim is to help your body become stronger without losing the efficiency we have worked to develop. Over time, you begin to discover that swimming further does not have to mean swimming harder than necessary.
