About Kiara
Hi! My name is Kiara, I am 21 years old, and I currently live in Calgary but I grew up NW of Cochrane on an acreage. Since I graduated Cochrane High School in 2019, I have been working as a server full-time to help pay for my university and living expenses. I also worked at the Foothills Hospital for two summers as an office research assistant for the Cardiac Research Division in partnership with the University of Calgary. During school this work load has been challenging, and I'm hoping to take a part-time position in a field I'm excited for: tutoring! Academically, I've been an honors student since fifth grade and have continued with this mindset throughout university. I received the full Alexander Rutherford Scholarship as a result of my hard work. My hobbies include hiking, skiing, basketball, horse riding, and reading (obviously). History and English are my passions, and I hope to spread this joy forward by teaching High School once I've finished my Bachelor of Education.

I am best when working with High School level English and Social Studies students who need help with any aspects of these classes; whether this be exam prep, writing essays, improving critical reading skills (applicable for poetry, literature, and historical texts), projects, research, or helping with homework, I am always excited to expand a student's knowledge base in the subjects I have dedicated my life to. My experience and passion for English and History not only provide me with a considerable familiarity with the technical aspects of the two subjects, but also have allowed me to grow my abilities surrounding writing. As such, I can improve the mechanics of your writing as well as give it that "umph" that will convince your reader to support your argument. These skills are applicable to Social Studies essays as well, but my historical knowledge and techniques for studying are effective for remembering dates and names. They will improve your study skills for exams, and hopefully inspire an interest in you as they have done in me.
