About Dylan
Hi, I’m Dylan — a middle and high school English teacher with graduate training in philosophy and IB certification in Theory of Knowledge.
I help students become sharper readers, stronger writers, and more confident thinkers. I work especially well with students who are bright but under-stimulated, who rush through English work, who struggle to move from summary to analysis, or who need a more engaging and thoughtful structure for reading and writing.
My approach is built around a Studio method: the structure stays consistent, but the entry point is tailored to the student. For one learner, that might mean beginning with a mystery, riddle, or thought experiment; for another, it might mean a novel passage, philosophical question, painting, or current school assignment.
The deeper aim is engagement, but the practical result is stronger academic work: better annotations, clearer paragraphs, more developed essays, and more confident participation in English.

My sessions are not simply homework help. They follow a flexible Studio structure designed to help students slow down, notice more, think more clearly, and express their ideas with greater precision.
A typical session begins with an engaging anchor — such as a short prompt, a rich novel passage, a painting, a riddle, or a philosophical question. From there, we look closely, discuss what we notice, name the thinking move, and translate that thinking into stronger annotations, sentences, paragraphs, essays, or creative pieces.
Across my classroom and private tutoring work, I have seen that many bright students do not need more generic worksheets. They need a better entry point into reading and writing.
The practical results I look for are concrete: stronger annotations, clearer paragraphs, richer vocabulary, more confident discussion, and a better ability to explain why a detail matters. Students learn not only to identify what happens in a text, but to notice patterns, name contrasts, explain significance, and develop their own ideas with more precision.
Sessions may include:
* literary annotation and close reading
* essay and paragraph development
* enriched English preparation
* vocabulary and sentence-level writing
* creative and reflective writing
* argumentation and critical thinking
* philosophy/TOK-style discussion
* support with novels, short stories, and school assignments
