About Maheen

Hi, I’m Maheen! I’m a university student with a strong interest in math and experience working with students of different ages and learning styles.

I believe that being a good tutor is not just about knowing the material, but also about being able to explain it in a way that actually makes sense to the student. I’m patient, approachable, and happy to go over a concept in different ways until it clicks. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes while they learn.

Whether you’re looking for help with homework, preparing for a test, or trying to understand a topic that has been giving you trouble, I’ll work with you at your own pace and help you build the confidence to tackle problems independently.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you and helping you feel more comfortable with math!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is to make math feel less overwhelming by breaking concepts down into smaller, easier-to-understand steps. I like to first figure out what a student already understands and where they are struggling, then adjust my explanations based on their learning style. I focus on explaining the reasoning behind a solution rather than just showing the final answer, so students can eventually solve similar problems on their own.

A typical lesson would start with a quick review of the topic and any questions from previous lessons. We would then go through the main concept together, working through examples step by step. After that, I would have the student try a few problems themselves while I guide them when needed. I also like to finish with a short review of the key ideas and anything they should practice before the next lesson.

What sets me apart is that I remember what it feels like to be a student who doesn't immediately understand something. I try to explain concepts in a straightforward way without making students feel bad for asking questions or needing something explained more than once. I am also comfortable adapting the pace of a lesson depending on whether a student needs extra practice with the basics or wants to work through more challenging problems.

My lessons are mainly for elementary and high school students, including students taking courses such as Grade 9–12 mathematics, functions, calculus, and other foundational math courses. I can also help students with homework, test and exam preparation, reviewing difficult topics, and building confidence with math in general.
