About Linnea

My passion for geography means fostering enthusiasm for the subject in others and teasing out their geographical ideas greatly excites me. Helping a student's student academic performance improve by encouraging a greater sense of academic confidence and teasing out their own arguments is what make tutoring so rewarding. I measure this through lesson progress and checking in on how student performance in end of unit tests is being affected. Checking in with the student over different time periods also allows me to adapt my teaching pace where I necessary to ensure the student is pushed but still able to understand.

Currently, I am studying for a MSc in Environment and International Development At LSE. I have low contact hours so am able to adapt student timetables and to provide regular more tailored support or irregular booster lessons. Prior to this, I completed a geography degree where I studied both physical and human geography, my knowledge of Geography at school and university remains fresh and at the cutting edge.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring focuses on the individual by trying to incorporate their interests into the subject material. For example, how local sports funding and football clubs can play a part in urban regeneration projects. Demonstrating the relevance of Geography by appealing to the life experience and interest of the student, fosters greater enthusiasm for the subject and helps build a bank of knowledge, arguments and case studies.

- Lesson lengths are typically 1 hour, but if preferred can be adapted for a shorter of longer session (up to 1 hour 30 mins).
- I tutor for GCSE and A Level students and need to be told the topics being covered before the lesson begins so that I can prepare specific materials.
My lessons aims to tease understanding out of the student through a lot of conversational work, rather than just transferring information directly.
- I have experience working as a study leader where I provided quality control and support for other tutors at a summer school. I have also been a maths tutor, led geography activity classes for ages 11-16, a been a 'peer mentor' for younger students.
