About Megan
I'm a second-year UBC student who loves helping kids achieve mastery and a deep understanding of their schoolwork. Before joining public school at 8 years old, I was homeschooled, building a strong personal work ethic and a love for learning. Even after starting school, I did math on Khan Academy, challenging myself to get ahead before each school year.
As my younger brother and sister got older, I began tutoring them with their schoolwork, where I learned how to explain problems in a way that creates lasting understanding, and to pivot when my approach wasn't working. I continue to study math on my own, and to challenge myself with the demands of university. Through tutoring, I hope to inspire the same love for learning in my students that has given me such fulfillment and has made school something to look forward to.

My teaching focuses on creating a positive relationship with each student, building a stress-free study environment, and explaining concepts in a way that encourages the student to learn how to think problems through themselves.
A typical lesson with me will start with a check in on what the student has been struggling with and what they would like to work on. Next comes a warm-up math challenge, and then we will dive into the main material the student needs help with. I will show them the process and make sure they understand how it works, then encourage them to do the next problems themselves. Where they make errors, I will correct their thought process while encouraging them in their efforts. At the end of the lesson we will do another check in and I'll leave them with some recommended study to do before the next lesson that will help them improve where they most need to.
I have a big-sisterly method of tutoring, coming from my own experience tutoring my younger siblings. This makes me someone kids can be easily comfortable around, and someone who will make learning fun as well as productive.
My lessons are catered for children ages 7-14 who are in elementary to middle grade math classes. Whether they feel behind in certain concepts, need a deeper understanding of the processes behind the math they're doing, or just want to get ahead, tutoring with me is a great choice. I am here to help each student feel confident and succeed!
