About Camila

Hello! I’m a passionate art historian, designer, and educator with a deep appreciation for visual culture and craftsmanship. With a BFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco and a Master’s in Textile and Surface Design from Madrid, my background bridges both art history and hands-on creative practice. I’ve worked across Ecuador, Spain, Egypt, and Canada, engaging with diverse artistic traditions and collaborating with artisans to explore the intersections of history, materiality, and design. My experience includes curating exhibitions, researching craftsmanship, and teaching in multicultural environments, which allows me to bring a global perspective to my art history lessons. Art is a powerful lens through which we can understand societies, ideas, and emotions. My goal as a tutor is to make art history accessible, engaging, and thought-provoking, whether you're a student, an artist, or simply an enthusiast looking to deepen your appreciation for the subject.

Art history is more than just studying paintings and sculptures—it’s about understanding the stories, cultures, and ideas that shaped human creativity. My goal as a tutor is to make art history come alive by connecting historical context with visual analysis engagingly and interactively.

My Teaching Methodology & Techniques
I believe in a dynamic, discussion-based approach that encourages critical thinking and curiosity. Instead of memorizing dates and movements, my students learn to analyze and interpret artworks in their cultural, political, and historical contexts. My methodology includes:

Visual Analysis – Learning to “read” an artwork by breaking down composition, technique, and symbolism
Storytelling Approach – Bringing history to life by connecting artists and movements to broader social changes
Comparative Studies – Understanding connections between different periods, cultures, and artistic styles
Discussion & Debate – Encouraging students to develop their own perspectives and interpretations
Multimedia Resources – Using images, videos, virtual museum tours, and academic readings to enhance learning

A Typical Lesson Plan
Introduction – Overview of the topic (e.g., Renaissance art, Surrealism, Indigenous Art)
Main Discussion – Deep dive into key artworks, artists, and historical influences
Visual Analysis Exercise – Practicing critical observation of selected artworks
Interactive Activity – Group discussions, debates, or comparative studies
Wrap-up & Reflection – Summary of key takeaways and Q&A

Lessons are always adapted to the student’s level and interests, making learning engaging and meaningful.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor?

Interdisciplinary & Global Perspective – My background in design and craftsmanship enriches my approach to art history, connecting theory with hands-on creative practices

Engaging & Story-Driven Teaching – I bring history to life through compelling narratives and real-world connections

Customized Lessons – Whether you're a beginner or an advanced student, I tailor lessons to your needs and interests
