About Serena

Hi! My name is Serena, and I am a second-year student at the University of Toronto studying Criminology, Sociology, and Environmental Anthropology. I am a friendly, patient, and reliable person who genuinely enjoys helping others learn and build confidence in themselves.

I have experience working with students as a teaching assistant at a Korean school, where I supported children with classroom activities and helped explain instructions in an approachable and encouraging way. That experience taught me the importance of patience, clear communication, and adapting to different learning styles.

As a current university student, I understand how frustrating it can be when a concept does not make sense right away. I aim to create a comfortable and judgment-free environment where students feel confident asking questions and taking the time they need to understand the material.

I take my responsibilities seriously and always try to come prepared, organized, and attentive to each student’s goals. My aim is not only to help students improve academically, but also to help them become more confident and independent learners.

About the lesson

My name is Serena, and my approach to tutoring is patient, supportive, and personalized to each student’s needs. I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through problems at their own pace, which is why I like to work with oral lessons.

I adapt my teaching methods depending on the student’s level, learning style, and goals. Rather than simply giving answers, I explain concepts step by step, use clear examples, and ask guiding questions to ensure the student understands how to reach the answer independently. I also like to connect lessons to practical or familiar examples so that difficult concepts feel easier to understand and remember.

A typical lesson begins with a short review of what the student already knows and any areas they are struggling with. We then focus on the main topic through explanation, examples, and guided practice. Toward the end of the lesson, I review the key ideas, answer any remaining questions, and make sure the student feels confident applying what they learned on their own.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my friendly and encouraging teaching style. As a University of Toronto student, I understand how stressful schoolwork can sometimes feel, so I try to create a relaxed learning environment while still helping students make steady academic progress.

My lessons are suitable for students who want extra academic support, help understanding difficult concepts, practice with class material, or greater confidence in their studies. Lessons can be adjusted for different ages, levels, and individual learning goals.
