About Ava

Hi! I'm a University of Toronto architecture student, current copyeditor for The Varsity, and former professional freestyle skier. Having balanced competitive athletics with demanding academics, I understand firsthand what it takes to manage your time, communicate effectively, and pursue ambitious goals. I've navigated university applications, academic writing, and professional opportunities while competing at a high level, giving me a practical understanding of what it takes to stand out.

At just 19, I secured a professional role at a highly regarded architecture firm, where I've worked in proposal writing, marketing, and communications. I've also earned early acceptance opportunities into master's programs, along with scholarships, experiences that have taught me how to present my strengths, tell my story and make an application memorable.

Now, as a copyeditor for UofT's student newspaper, I continue to develop my eye for clear, engaging, and polished writing. I want to share what I've learned with students who are working toward their own goals, whether that's improving an essay, getting into their dream school, writing a standout cover letter, or simply feeling more confident putting their ideas on paper.

I know how overwhelming it can be to juggle competing priorities while trying to do your best, and I bring a supportive, approachable, and practical perspective to every lesson. My goal isn't just to help you improve one assignment; it's to help you develop the skills and confidence to succeed long after our sessions end!

I offer personalised writing support for students looking to strengthen their writing, communicate their ideas clearly, and feel more confident in their work. As a current University of Toronto architecture student and copyeditor for The Varsity, UofT’s student newspaper, I bring both academic and professional experience to my lessons. My previous work in proposal writing, marketing, and communications at a highly regarded architecture firm has also given me experience adapting writing for different audiences and purposes.

My approach is collaborative, practical and tailored to each student. If you need help structuring an academic essay, refining your arguments, improving grammar and flow, editing a cover letter, preparing a university application or creating a compelling presentation, we will work together to identify areas for improvement and develop skills you can use independently.

Lessons can include reviewing existing work, brainstorming ideas, building an outline, strengthening sentence structure, or practising editing techniques. I focus on explaining not only what can be improved, but why, so you can become a more confident and effective writer. I welcome students at different levels and am happy to adapt lessons to your goals, assignments, and learning style.
