About Cristobal

I am Cristobal Parra, an upcoming third-year architecture student at Cornell University’s School of Architecture, Art, and Planning—one of the nation’s top-ranked architecture programs. With a strong foundation in design, structures, and architectural history, I bring both academic rigor and creative vision to every project I undertake. My experience spans organizing and curating large-scale art events in Mexico City, where I collaborated with artists and managed logistics for a New York-based company, to interning with an urban development firm in San Antonio, where I gained firsthand insight into real estate and construction processes. I am an active member of the Cornell Real Estate Development Trust and Cornell Capital Partners, where I have honed my analytical and leadership skills. As a tutor, I specialize in portfolio and college essay preparation for students aspiring to enter competitive architecture and design programs. My approach is collaborative and tailored, combining my technical skills in Rhino, InDesign, Grasshopper, and Photoshop with a deep understanding of what top schools seek in applicants. I am fluent in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese, allowing me to support students from diverse backgrounds. Passionate about art, architecture, and mentorship, I am dedicated to helping students develop their unique voice and achieve their academic and creative goals.

Teaching Method and Techniques
My tutoring approach is highly personalized, drawing on my experience as an upcoming third-year student at Cornell University’s top-ranked architecture program. I focus on mentorship that combines creative design thinking with practical guidance. My sessions are interactive, using open-ended questions and the Socratic method to encourage students to articulate their ideas and develop their unique voice, especially for college essays and portfolio projects. I leverage my technical skills in Rhino, InDesign, Grasshopper, and Photoshop to guide students through digital and physical project development, ensuring they gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools.

Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson is structured around a three-phase project development model tailored to portfolio preparation:

Phase 1: Discovery and Brainstorming
We begin by identifying the student’s interests, strengths, and goals. For college essays, we brainstorm meaningful stories and review what top architecture programs, like Cornell, are seeking in applicants.

I help students select topics and project ideas that showcase their creativity, problem-solving skills, and personal growth.

Phase 2: Design and Drafting
Students develop project concepts and start building their portfolios, with my guidance on structure, narrative, and technical execution.

For essays, we outline and draft, focusing on clarity, authenticity, and alignment with college expectations.

For design projects, I provide feedback on sketches, models, and digital work, emphasizing iteration and refinement.

Phase 3: Refinement and Presentation
We polish essays and projects, ensuring they are cohesive, visually compelling, and tailored to what top colleges want to see.

I offer expert editing, critique, and advice on presentation, helping students prepare for submission or interviews.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I bring real-world experience from organizing international art events and internships in both art and architecture, giving students practical insights into the creative industry.

My background at Cornell’s highly ranked architecture program means I understand exactly what top schools look for in portfolios and essays.

I offer bilingual support (English and Spanish) and proficiency in Portuguese, making my lessons accessible to a broader range of students.

I emphasize both creative exploration and technical skill-building, ensuring students not only meet application requirements but also develop as designers and thinkers.

My lessons are ideal for:
High school students preparing college applications, especially those targeting architecture, design, or art programs.

Students seeking guidance on college essays, portfolio development, and project-based learning.

Anyone interested in building a strong, creative portfolio that reflects both technical skills and personal narrative.
