About Cory
My first career was in law. I worked at a general law firm on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. I am a member of the Ney York Bar Association in good standing.
In 2004, I decided to pursue teaching as a career. Since then I have taught all grades and subjects (except high school science and math) with a focus on English.

My methodology is to first teach the necessary skills, then to apply those skills to real life situations.
I place much importance in how to write an essay. I have found that Ontario teachers do not adequately teach how to write a clear, well researched essay.
I also teach how to read for meaning. Many students do not actually read what they are supposed to, they just let their eyes go over the words. I ensure that every single word is understood and how it relates to the overall reading passage.
Finally, I use fun activities to teach concepts. For example, I make lava lamps with students to understand density of liquids, I use film canisters and Alks seltzer to teach the concept of variables, and have students 'mine' rocks and minerals using rainbow chocolate chip cookies to understand geology. For older students, i use The Lion King to show how the film is a an infantilized way of telling Hamlet.
