About Hazel
My journey with the violin began through a fascination with expressive performance and the rich traditions of classical music. This passion led me to complete a Bachelor of Music in String Performance followed by a Master of Music in Violin Performance. Over the past 7 years, I have worked with students preparing for auditions, recitals, examinations, and personal musical goals. Teaching violin allows me to share my experience while helping students build confidence and artistry.
I particularly enjoy mentoring advanced learners who are preparing for important performances and academic opportunities. My teaching includes work on advanced bowing techniques, interpretive decisions, concert preparation, stage presence, and performance mindset. I believe strong preparation involves both technical mastery and mental readiness. By helping students develop both areas, I support them in reaching their highest potential.
Outside teaching, I continue studying violin repertoire, attending performances, and exploring historical performance practices. These experiences help me bring depth and perspective into lessons. Watching students achieve goals they once considered difficult is one of the most rewarding parts of my profession. I am committed to helping learners develop strong skills, artistic confidence, and lasting appreciation for music.

My violin lessons focus on helping students build skills through patient guidance and thoughtful practice strategies. I understand that many learners balance busy schedules and sometimes face performance anxiety, so I incorporate effective methods such as mental fingering, silent bowing, visualization exercises, and air violin practice. These techniques allow students to continue developing even when they cannot practice traditionally. Lessons also include work on tone production, posture, intonation, rhythm accuracy, and performance preparation. Every session is designed to support gradual and meaningful improvement.
Students receive personalized instruction based on their experience level and individual needs. Beginners focus on instrument setup, bow control, note accuracy, and listening skills. Intermediate learners strengthen shifting, articulation, dynamic control, and musical expression. Advanced students work on performance memory, interpretive choices, technical consistency, and recital preparation. I also help learners develop tension awareness and relaxation techniques that contribute to more comfortable and confident playing. Regular encouragement helps students stay motivated throughout their musical journey.
Learning violin involves more than mastering technical skills. It also develops discipline, confidence, patience, and creativity. My lessons help students become independent musicians who can approach challenges calmly and effectively. As learners progress, they often discover greater enjoyment and satisfaction in their musical achievements. My goal is to support steady growth while helping students build a positive and rewarding relationship with violin playing.
