About Jenna

My name is Jenna. I am a graduate of KCP Municipal Japanese School in Tokyo. I lived in Ikebukuro for two years while I earned my Certificate of Proficiency in Japanese. When I first went, I had zero--and I mean ZERO Japanese knowledge. If you're just starting out, I relate and think I would be a great fit for you! Some of my hobbies include reading novels and manga, crocheting, painting, and playing piano. During my time in Japan I worked as an English tutor and helped out several Japanese, Korean, and Chinese students with the English language. Through that experience I discovered how much fun it is to be able to meet and talk to people through shared interests and learning about their lives and goals. After coming back home to the States I've rediscovered that enjoyment through helping my local community middle schools in their tutoring centers.

About the lesson

As a graduate of KCP Municipal Japanese School, after living in Tokyo for two years I understand having to learn Japanese starting from scratch, and will work with you to find effective strategies that help you!

I use a mish-mash of several different books that I've personally used during my Japanese journey--like Heisig, Genki, and Minna no Nihongo.

As I've reached an advanced level as a non-native, I can explain tricky grammar points and share individualized study methods I think would work for you.

My approach is patient and supportive. You'll make mistakes. I still do! It's all about the learning journey.

As a from-scratch learner I know exactly where most people (and myself) have gotten stuck and can offer help to avoid the same struggles.

My focus isn't on teaching you super advanced Japanese or Keigo. My goal for you would be to get to a conversational level so you can understand well, speak clearly, ask questions, and be completely self sufficient if you were to go to Japan yourself.
