About Catherine

Since completing my CELTA course, I have been teaching English and Spanish online for over a year.

My background is in desktop publishing and proofreading. I have proofread and published a couple of e-books and I currently help build online training courses for the retail industry.

About the lesson

My lessons are for adults who want to start learning Spanish!

It doesn't matter if you've never learnt another language before, all you need is a bit of curiousity about you to unlock the doors to a whole new world of communication and connection!

Spanish isn't my native language, so am I any good?
I've studied linguistics and Spanish at university, and use it on a daily basis with my Colombian husband. I'm on a mission to prepare myself for a DELE C1 exam sometime next year, and then want to take a Spanish-teaching qualification to use alongside my CELTA for teaching English.

I'm currently teaching two students in Spanish; one was struggling to communicate with their native-Spanish teacher, and the other had been learning for over a year with a tutor, but was still only using the present tense.

I think after about 100 hours of learning a language, if you're ONLY able to speak about the present, then you need to try a different method.

The course I use covers practical topics, such as shopping, going to a café, telling the time and asking for direction. A few hours are spent on each topic so as to introduce, reinforce and use new vocabulary and grammar points.

I don't give homework because language learning shouldn't be a chore, we will do all the hard work in the lessons, but I'll provide you with listening and reading materials which are totally optional for you to use in your own time.

Before your next lesson I'll also provide you with some new vocabulary or phrases to look through so you feel confident and prepared!
