About Buddhika

I’m Buddhika, a Physics Teaching Assistant and master’s student at the University of Manitoba. I help Winnipeg high-school students understand Pre-Calculus, strengthen their algebra skills, and approach tests with greater confidence.

I have tutored since 2017, with experience teaching Manitoba Pre-Calculus, Applied Mathematics, and Essential Mathematics. My teaching background includes tutoring with Tutor Doctor and Sylvan Learning in Winnipeg, teaching Advanced Level Physics in Sri Lanka, and supporting university students through tutorials and laboratory classes.

A student struggling with Pre-Calculus does not always need the same explanation repeated. Sometimes the real obstacle is an earlier gap in fractions, factoring, rearranging equations, or understanding graphs. I work to identify that obstacle and build from the point where the student needs help.

My physics research uses mathematics, simulations, and data analysis. I bring that problem-solving experience into lessons while keeping explanations appropriate to the student’s level.

I am patient with questions and mistakes, and I encourage students to explain their thinking. My aim is to help them understand the methods well enough to tackle unfamiliar questions independently.

About the lesson

Does your child understand the teacher’s examples but struggle when working alone? Are algebra mistakes costing marks, or is an upcoming Pre-Calculus test becoming stressful?

I offer individual Pre-Calculus mathematics tutoring for Winnipeg high-school students, with lessons connected to their Manitoba school course, current topics, and learning goals.

• Grade 11 Pre-Calculus Mathematics — 30S
• Grade 12 Pre-Calculus Mathematics — 40S
• Grade 10 Introduction to Applied and Pre-Calculus Mathematics — 20S, including preparation for Grade 11

• Closing gaps in algebra, factoring, fractions, and rearranging equations
• Understanding functions, graphs, and trigonometry
• Working through difficult course topics step by step
• Choosing an appropriate method when a question looks unfamiliar
• Preparing for quizzes, tests, and final exams
• Showing clear solutions and identifying recurring mistakes

HOW LESSONS WORK

We start with the student’s school materials and examples of questions they find difficult. I check the underlying skills before deciding where to begin.

During lessons, I explain ideas with worked examples, then guide the student through similar questions. The student also attempts questions independently so I can check whether the method makes sense without prompting.

When mistakes happen, we examine the reason and practice the relevant skill. Lessons finish with a recap and clear priorities for further practice.

WHO THIS IS FOR

I support students who are falling behind, students working towards stronger grades, and students who want a firmer foundation before their next mathematics course. The pace and challenge are adjusted to the individual.

Lessons are available online and in person in Winnipeg, subject to location and availability.

FREE 30-MINUTE INTRODUCTORY SESSION

Please bring a recent assignment, test, or two or three questions you find difficult. We will discuss your goals, work through a sample question, and identify where tutoring could help.

Parents are welcome to join the initial discussion.
